Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnotherapy

Q: What can hypnotherapy be used for?

A: Excellent question! Hypnotherapy traditionally received its roots from medical applications such as its effective use in surgery and pain treatments. Its anesthetic effects during amputations, and ability to expedite better healing were an excellent alternative to alcohol and the other methods available at that time. This was years before ether and other chemicals were introduced into the medical field. In fact, it’s still being used in the medical and other field today! Hypnotherapy can be used for:

Medical & Pain Applications,  Addiction Treatment (Alcohol/Smoking), Weight Loss, Self Esteem, Enhancing Sports Performance, Relaxation & Sleep, Hospice Care, Sexual Matters, Business & Development, Wealth & Success, Past Life Regression, Dealing with the past & Trauma, Childbirth & Pregnancy, Discipline, Grief & Loss, Disease Treatment & Health, Motivation & Discipline, Learning Enhancement, Enhancing Relationships, Self Development & much  more.

Essentially Hypnotherapy can address almost any issue that deals with the mind and the mind-body connection. Hypnotherapy has its uses in the Metaphysical realm as well. Feel free to contact me & if you have a special need I can work to meet your need if possible.

Q: What services does Remedy Hypnotherapy offer to it's clients/patients?

A: Another excellent question! Remedy Hypnotherapy offers more than just a Hypnotherapy Session. It offers an experience that is Holistic in nature. What that means is that every Hypnotherapy session that a client receives is going to work on all 5 of the senses to ensure that your entire mind and body is going to be affected. Taste, touch, scent, sound, sight, as well as thought -shall be blended together to ensure maximum effectiveness in both the session as well as the experience. These are selected by each client so that they are happy and have their senses delighted. Learning and thought styles are taken into full consideration and many other modalities are applied into each session in addition to Hypnotherapy.

For the price of the session you will also receive a recording of the session in an MP3 format so that you may listen to it again to provide pleasant repetition in the convenience of your home. In addition, a visualization MP3 session will be given free of charge. As a final bonus, a goal-planning worksheet will be created to keep you on track of your goals and mark your constant progression. CD’s created at clients specific request.

Q: Will I be conscious during a hypnotherapy session?

A: Yes- you will be conscious during each session. You will be in what we call a trance-like state. What specifically is a trance-like state? Well, I will give you two examples:

Example 1. Right before you go to sleep at night or when you are getting ready for bed, and you are feeling highly relaxed, highly comfortable, and highly sleepy and you can feel your eyelids are touching. Well imagine that for approximately 35-55 minutes. Not quite asleep yet, and hardly awake. That is an example of a trance-like state.

Example 2.  You are driving in your automobile or being driven and you are driving for a while and you are at your destination although you hardly remember the drive at all. Your mind drifted off but you were awake, and you were not asleep. Well imagine being in that relaxed state for approximately 35-55 minutes. That is another example of a trance-like state.

Trance states are harmless and everyone slips into those states many times throughout the day. Trance allows you to think and if you really wanted to- move. Obviously humans cannot stay in a trance-like state indefinitely. Life goes on! With Hypnotherapy we are going into that state with a purpose, and helping you use the tools that you already have, to provide you with a solution that will get you to where you want to be!

Q: What are any possible negative side effects of hypnotherapy?

A: There are no negative side effects of Hypnotherapy when you are receiving it with Remedy Hypnotherapy. I frequently work with both Western & Eastern Medicine Professionals as well as Holistic Medicine Professionals. I have been introduced into these subjects as well as different areas in Psychology to ensure your safety and wellbeing is a top priority. In an extremely rare-case scenario –the Hypnotherapy session just might not work. An extremely minute percentage of the population does not go into trance for unknown reasons. Also drugs & high amounts of alcohol also affect the brains’ ability to function, and retain information- in which case would also affect the Hypnotherapy session and these are seen on a case-by-case basis only.

Perhaps an example in which Hypnotherapy & Self-Hypnotherapy may be misused is in the example below:

“In an extreme case if Hypnotherapy was to be used to manage pain by ‘Hypnotherapist A’ and there were an actual injury to the wrist of ‘Client B’. Then ‘Client B’ was to overuse their wrist due to the fact that they are not feeling pain or feeling much less pain, and thus further their injury- then there is a possibility. In that case, ‘Client B’ has just further injured their self, due to the Hypnotherapy session that was provided by ‘Hypnotherapist A’.”

In the state of
California, Hypnotherapy is not regulated so in theory anyone can be a Hypnotherapist. This is not the standard in other states, where it is a licensed profession. It is very important that you see a Professional Hypnotherapist or at a minimum- a well experienced one (Minimum of 300 hours). Practice Self Hypnosis only if you have a really good idea of what you are doing and that you have consulted with a Professional Hypnotherapist or a well experienced Hypnotherapist. Feel free to ask a Hypnotherapist to see their formal schooling or certificates and their Hypnotherapy Affiliations (i.e. American Hypnotherapy Association, National Association of Hypnotherapists, American Association of Professional Hypnotherapists, American Board of Clinical Hypnotherapists, etc.) Picking up a book on Hypnotherapy does not mean you are a qualified Hypnotherapist.

Q: Is hypnotherapy safe to use on children? If so, for what purposes? (bedwetting?, sleeping?, eating?, etc.)

A: Hypnotherapy is very effective on children. Children have a natural imagination and many have not locked in an ego that can sometimes make communication difficult. Children's minds are still open to learning new things with relative ease and so are very good in the visualization process that is used in Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is safe on children and can be used for education enhancement, ADD, ADHD, bedwetting, childhood fears, childhood trauma, sports enhancement, pain, and a wide variety of other areas. Many times Hypnotherapy allows the child to ‘explore’ their own space in which might not always be conducive in a home environment regardless of how much the parents may try. Hypnotherapy is an open outlet for children to perform without any expectations and later develop the skills and behaviors that are socially acceptable and desired amongst adults and other groups.

Q: How is this different from what I've seen at the State Fair where they make people look like fools?

A: LOL! That is a question that never grows old to me! So yes, its true- that there is a difference between Hypnotherapy that you can see a professional for and one you watch for entertainment. In Hypnotherapy you usually have the following categories:

Basic Hypnotherapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Advanced Hypnotherapy, Medical Hypnotherapy, & Stage Hypnosis.

The first four are used to improve and modify mindsets, behaviors, and areas dealing with medical applications, while Stage Hypnosis is used exclusively for entertainment. Stage Hypnosis as you may have observed- has some really unique characteristics.

1.) The Stage Hypnotherapist never hypnotizes every single person in the crowd.

2.) Usually 2 types of people go onto stage~ The person who wants to be hypnotized & the person who says ‘I bet they can’t hypnotize me!’ (i.e. both are usually highly susceptible to hypnosis).

3.) The Stage Hypnotist usually starts picking and choosing who they want in the ‘crowd’. There are different levels of susceptibility amongst people and the ones who are extremely susceptible to suggestion are like golden nuggets to a talented Stage Hypnotist. He or She seeks them out- and they are usually the one who when he starts saying something -already start obeying without being commanded to (i.e. He says to ‘itch’ and they start to scratch, etc.). They might glaze over when the Hypnotist talks or get really, really, excited while everyone else is calm. These individuals are ripe for the pickin’!

In these cases the Stage Hypnotist puts them into a deep, deep, trance and tells them they will not remember this. The crowd being hypnotized, are highly susceptible so they will obey this- no questions asked. The Hypnotist keeps them in that trance state using phrases to keep them under and they just do what he or she says and that is your show.

I will respect your privacy and your time and get you where you want to go. I am not a stage hypnotist and I specialize in other areas in the arena of improvement & progression. I will not make you cluck like a chicken unless that is your goal ;)

Q: How many sessions will I need to see a difference?

A: That depends entirely on the client and their willingness to work with the guidelines that we set together. Some areas are usually only require a session or two such as Smoking Cessation or Phobias. Other areas such as Weight Loss, Hospice, Disease, Childhood Trauma or Self-Esteem can understandably take a bit longer.

Hypnotherapy is not a set-in-stone guaranteed process that will guarantee anything that you want in just a session or two. I am still looking for that process myself. What Hypnotherapy does do is it identifies what is holding you down or holding you back and it addresses it directly through your subconscious thought(s). From there, it begins to override the negative patterns with effective and positive affirmative statements in a language that your subconscious will understand and grasp. It is followed by a follow-up goal plan to ensure that you do not revert to old and non-constructive ways and you are held accountable to your own progress. Many times a single issue is only a symptom of a deeper underlying problem that was never addressed.

i.e. “Failure in Business Planning <<< Fear of Success << Negative Childhood Upraising”

Although a Hypnotherapist can address a Business Planning Failure, it can be discovered that a Fear of Success is one underlying issue. Even if the Hypnotherapist were to address the Business Planning, the Fear of Success could reshow itself in a romantic relationship. Then the individual can find themselves self-sabotaging their romantic relationship because the Fear of Success was never addressed. The root of the underlying cause needs to be addressed and dealt with. This is where I come in.

So sometimes, if we are digging deep it can take more than one session or two. These things usually are dealing with delicate emotions that a client has not yet discovered how to deal with these yet and so this is not a process that can always be rushed. This is where I come in. My job is not to give you 10,000 sessions and try and get all of your money. My job is to figure out the underlying issues and empower you with the tools that you already have to be where it is that you want to be!

If you want the help, and you are tired of spinning wheels and going nowhere fast- let me know how I can best assist you in your search. If you truly want to change I am here to help!

Q: Are your services done in an office setting or at my home?

A: My services are done in a home-office setting for a more relaxed feel so that you can come as you are. For those who would feel even more comfortable at their own home I can make arrangements to conduct a session at their house. There is a smaller additional fee based upon the locale of the client. In the instance of a house call, it is highly recommended that all distractions that could take away from the experience be removed. (Pets, Children, Electronic Devices, Visitors) It is our wish that you get the most from the time in which we provide to you.

Q: How long does each session usually take?

A: The initial sessions usually take an hour and a half to two hours. Every session after that is usually an hour and fifteen minutes. If a longer session is requested the fee could be adjusted accordingly to fit the needs of the clients in certain circumstances.

To continue to be successful, will I have to keep up with sessions for the rest of my life?

To continue to be successful -a client will not have to keep sessions up for the rest of their lives. Many clients are very pleased with the results and like using Hypnotherapy to keep them grounded and on track with their goals or to take on other issues in their lives. A complimentary MP3 or CD is given so that a client may listen and review their sessions in an instance where they may be overwhelmed in non-productive elements. My goal is to empower the clients to develop themselves. Should they wish to revisit me as often as they like- I warmly welcome them.

Q: Can anybody be hypnotized? If not, will I get a refund if my session isn't successful?

A: Almost everyone can be Hypnotized. There is an exceptionally minute percentage of people who cannot be Hypnotized. Even they benefit from the relaxing environment & the goal-setting sessions. If there is an instance in which a client feels that the session did not contribute in any form to their growth- the client will get a partial refund or another session.

Sometimes a client may believe they want assistance but later find that their disability or behavior served them in a way in which they were not ready to give up or give up yet. A refund is not provided to individuals who demonstrate those behaviors. Examples are given below:

1.)
Joe wants help from his alcohol addiction. Joe later understands that if he quits he has to get a job. Joe does not want to work & reverts back to alcohol so he doesn’t have to work.

2.)
Jill wants to fix her relationship with her boyfriend. Jill brings in her boyfriend. The boyfriend does not want to change & is there because she threatened him.

3.)
Mary wants to think positive. Mary later understands that not as many people come to check in on her anymore. Mary wants attention and goes back to being negative.

If there are any additional questions in regards to prices and refunds –please feel free to send an email or call at your own convenience.

Q: "If I have a really strange request, will you charge for a consultation to see if you think hypnosis will help me?"

A: With Hypnotherapy there isn’t a strange request at all. Hypnotherapy is used for a wide variety of areas from medical & pain relief applications, to life-long phobias, to sports and learning enhancement! In other realms is could be used to bring back past-life memories, unusual encounters, or forgotten abilities that are lying dormant deep within your subconscious. In a private consultation I will listen to your ideas and make a determination how Hypnotherapy can best serve you. If it is determined that Hypnotherapy is not the best route- than guidance toward the direction that best fits your needs will be given. If the Hypnotherapy session is your best option and you decide to move forward with the session – only then will you be charged. As always, your privacy and confidentiality is always protected.
